Can Marketers On Facebook Now Run Targeted Ad Campaigns Based On What Users Studied? Facebook introduced a minor tweak to its ad-targeting options that could prove to be a major help for marketers aiming to focus on specific professions. Reader Evyatar Shpilman of Visual Communication shared the screenshot above, in which he illustrated that users of Facebook’s Power Editor can now target Facebook users by their specific areas of study, without being required to specify the schools they attended. Shpilman pointed out that this change provides a way for marketers to indirectly target Facebook users by profession, since that option is not currently available — if a Facebook user studied medicine, the chances of that user being a doctor are fairly high, for example. New Guinness World Record For Facebook Comments

New Guinness World Record For Facebook Comments Should a Guinness World Record count when it was exclusively the result of an initiative to break the previous record? That question could be asked about the new mark for most comments on a Facebook status update. Tracey Hodgson of the United Kingdom, a fan of Zynga game FrontierVille, created a Facebook, group, Ffgpioneers, where 107 FrontierVille aficionados began commenting on an October 30 post, leaving an average of 9,358 comments apiece. At the time of this post, the total number of comments on the Facebook post exceeded one million. Hodgson told Guinness World Records: I started to get into FrontierVille after my daughter started playing it using my Facebook account. I began to play myself, and then got involved in helping with the game’s community groups as an administrator. My friend Nattie Murphy saw the previous record and suggested that I try to break it — it sounded like a great idea for our group to show what we are capable of when we work together. We had over 107 help, but many left the record group because of the constant notifications. There was a core group of four people, including Nattie, adding comments. It feels fantastic to have been able to break the world record for our community. While I don’t actually play FrontierVille anymore, I’ve met some great people through playing it and love to be able to help them enjoy the game still. Our take: We’d be a lot more interested to see a Guinness World Record for actual comments to a meaningful Facebook status update, rather than an unabashed attempt to break a record. Facebook Alerts Page Admins Who Use Pages To Watch When One Of Those Pages Has A Hot Post Facebook continues to introduce new ways for page administrators to monitor their competitors’ pages, following up the addition of Pages to Watch to its page insights earlier this week with the introduction of notices when posts from those pages are generating strong engagement. Reader Matteo Gamba of Patience shared the screenshot above, in which a module on his page read: New post to watch: A page you watch has a post that’s getting a lot of attention. A “view post” button also appears at the bottom of the module. Page admins: Have you used Facebook’s Pages to Watch feature? Devamı

REPORT: Facebook Mobile’s Share Of Referrals Growing Rapidly

2014-02-17 01:03:00

REPORT: Facebook Mobile’s Share Of Referrals Growing Rapidly Facebook’s emphasis on becoming a mobile company is paying off in terms of referrals, as Shareaholic reported that referrals to its network of more than 200,000 sites from Facebook mobile skyrocketed 197 percent in January compared with last September. Shareaholic also found that Facebook mobile drove 8.25 percent of visits to its network of sites in January, while Facebook overall was responsible for 16.21 percent, meaning that mobile accounted for more than one-half of referrals from the social network. The content discovery and sharing company offered more details in a post on its blog: Indeed, Facebook is very much the “mobile company” everyone suggests it is. This is demonstrated not only by the fact that mobile made up 53 percent of its advertising revenue in the fourth quarter, but by its commitment to providing a better mobile browsing experience with the introduction of its Paper application. Effectively, if your business or blog isn’t very usable on a mobile phone, you’ll want to invest more resources into building a mobile experience your visitors can’t get enough of — or at least one they won’t hate. Facebook On Relationships: The Longer They Last, The More Likely

Facebook On Relationships: The Longer They Last, The More Likely They Won’t End The Facebook Data Science Team’s study of love on the social network during Valentine’s Day week continued with a look at the relationship between the length of relationships and the success of relationships. Not surprisingly, the Facebook Data Science Team found that the longer couples were in relationships, the more likely those relationships would last, as relationships that are shaky tend to dissolve early on. Here are more details from the post by Bogdan State: What determines the life of a relationship? By far the most important aspect is the relationship’s current age. The more you and your significant other have stayed together, the less likely you two are to split up. It’s easy to see why this might be. As the days since the two of you “made it official” (on Facebook) fly by, the relationship gets more opportunities to dissolve. Life circumstances and personal incompatibilities may lead to the relationship ending. Alternatively, maybe your couple is one of the lucky ones and your relationship chugs along to happily-ever-after. With every month that passes, more and more shaky relationships end, leaving an ever-larger proportion of solid relationships around. This is exactly what we see in our data. We measured relationship starts and ends using changes in relationship statuses from “single” to “in a relationship with” and vice-versa. We only look into relationships that lasted at least three months on Facebook, and only consider relationships where both individuals were at least 23 when they began the relationship, and only relationships in which individuals did not list their first relationship status as “married” (to try to capture something closer to true relationship starts, rather than the recording of long-existing marriages). This sort of question about secular t... Devamı
